In an attempt to gain his father's attention, Bonney forms his own pirate crew and has his own adventures parallel to those of Luffy. As the “Pacifista” project moves forward, Kuma already has his eye on Dragon's son. We witness the incidents of Thriller Bark and the Sabaody Archipelago, this time from Kuma's perspective. Kuma is becoming convinced that Luffy is the hero who will save the world, but he is not ready yet, so he decides to split up the Straw Hat crew. Before completing the operation that will cause him to lose consciousness, Kuma shares with Vegapunk his opinion about Luffy and makes the final request that he program him to protect the Straw Hat crew's ship. Kuma creates a copy of his memory with his ability, though it will be absorbed when someone touches it. In tears, Vegapunk bids farewell to Kuma, assuring him that he is the actual hero. Finally, we see Bonney crying after she absorbed his father's memory.
